Noise from the cargo hold: American Airlines Boeing 777 returned to the airport due to an attempted illegal entry (2 photos + 2 videos)
An American Airlines Boeing 777-323 ER (registration N717AN) flying from Buenos Aires to New York was forced to return to the airport of departure after passengers and crew began hearing increasing noise coming from the cargo hold.
The unusual sound was first recorded in the Cordoba, Argentina area. As the noise grew louder, the crew decided to turn the plane around and asked ground crews at Ministero Pistarini Airport to activate security protocols. Video footage from the scene shows the plane being met by armed special forces upon arrival.
Later it became known that there was a person in the cargo bay who, presumably, tried to illegally get on board and fly to the United States. He tried to attract attention by knocking on the walls of the bay with a blunt object. The identity of the intruder has not yet been revealed - an investigation is underway.
Special attention was drawn to the issue of security: before the armed detachment entered the cargo bay, why did no one think about evacuating the passengers? In the event of resistance from the intruder, the special forces could open fire in the plane loaded with fuel, full of people.
