Local residents have discovered a thick layer of white foam on the Yamuna River. The river has not been inhabited by fish for a long time, and in terms of pollution, it can easily compete with the Parisian Seine.
The river, which flows through the capital of the country, New Delhi, has never been known for its clean waters, but traditional ablutions are held in it every year for the Chhath Puja holiday, which, by the way, will take place on November 5.
The Yamuna, the largest tributary of the Ganges, is among the most polluted rivers in the world. And all thanks to the efforts of the residents of New Delhi themselves. Every day, 3.6 billion liters of wastewater are dumped into the Yamuna.
In short, they poured it out, along the entire length of the waterway in New Delhi, the river was covered with a thick layer of toxic foam. The content of phosphates and ammonia in it is off the charts.
When it gets on the skin, it causes irritation and breathing problems. But people are not at all embarrassed by this and they throw fun foam parties.
The authorities ordered special antifoam agents to be sprayed over the river in order to somehow solve the problem before the holiday, when people will go en masse to wash themselves in the poisonous river.
A similar situation occurred in 2021, the same foam filled the river at about the same time. They fought the foam, but the problem was not completely solved.
