He didn't say hello and secretly raised his colleagues' salaries: an employee sued her boss (4 photos)
Andrew Gilchrist refused to greet Nadine Hanson three times when she arrived at work. It became known that the boss was angry because the employee was late. However, he did not know that Nadine was at the doctor. A resident of the UK was able to sue her boss for substantial compensation for forcing her to quit, and also for raising the salaries of her colleagues.
Gilchrist, 62, raised the salaries of two of the woman's subordinates without informing her. The director came to the company in 2023 and disliked his subordinate from the first meeting. He undermined her authority in the team and treated her with disdain.
Andrew Gilchrist assured the judge that he did not hear the greetings of the subordinate
Hanson began to suffer from anxiety and insomnia. As a result, she wrote a letter of resignation and sued the company.
During the proceedings, it was proven that the boss forced the subordinate to resign.
Nadine obtained compensation for illness, which they refused to pay her because Gilchrist decided that she was faking. She is also expecting payment from Interaction Recruitment Ltd, which has 30 offices across the UK.
Nadine Hanson worked for 20 years as a regional manager at the company
The inquest heard: "Ms Hanson said she said good morning to Mr Gilchrist three times, but he ignored her. He then said to her in front of her colleagues, 'I suggest you go into the conference room.' They went into the conference room. She tried to show him her phone with a doctor's appointment, but he pushed it aside. He said, 'If you don't want to work here, I suggest you quit.' She replied: "After 20 years with the company, the only way I would leave would be if I was made redundant."
Gilchrist tried to defend himself, but the court found his arguments unpersuasive.
Judge Sarah Davis said: "I find that Mr Gilchrist had no reasonable or justifiable reason for deliberately ignoring Ms Hanson's greeting. He pushed her phone away when she tried to show him her appointment and immediately began criticising her. By the end of their conversation on 26 September 2023, he had concluded that she had no future with the company. That is why, within an hour, he gave her assistants a pay rise without discussing the matter with her. There was no pressing need for such a rush; Mr. Gilchrist simply did not want to see Miss Hanson on the staff any longer."
