It Reminds Me Something: A Sculpture Installed in the Central Square Made Townspeople Laugh (5 photos) photo)
The odd shape of the structure has caused controversy regarding the appropriateness of its installation in a public place — the central square of the Municipality.
The 12-meter sculpture Tu si''na cosa grande ("You are a big thing") by Italian designer Gaetano Pesce, installed in the main square of Naples (Italy), has become the subject of controversy among city residents. People joke that the shape of the work of art seems not quite decent to them.
It is believed that the installation is dedicated to the comedy del arte character "Polinchinelle", but the phallic appearance of the structure has caused controversy about the appropriateness of its placement in a public place - the central square of the Municipality.
The published photographs show a stylized 12-meter image of the fictional character with a five-meter pierced heart installed nearby. The cables that hold the work of modern art in place are covered with flowers. In the evening, the object glows from within.
The reaction of social media users was not long in coming.
"This is dirt for 200 thousand euros - that's what it is!" - one user got angry;
"This reminds me of something," joked another;
Another commented: "I can't believe they didn't know how it would look from the outside";
"We, the simple people of Naples, are amazed by such beauty and humbly bow our heads before it. Soul of Vincenzo Gemito, help us understand contemporary art!" — added a third user.
According to local journalists, the installation by Gaetano Pesce is supposed to symbolize the ironic spirit of Naples, but it accidentally became the subject of controversy, ridicule and memes.
