A postman tired from work hid four thousand letters and parcels at home (3 photos)
During the hearing, the judge noted that the defendant deserved a real prison term.
30-year-old Jason Cooper from the UK, who had been working as a postman since 2017, hid four thousand letters and parcels at home. During his service, the man received several reprimands for poor time management. When the employee was questioned during an internal investigation, he admitted that he hid the mail because he was allegedly tired of working overtime.
A carpenter reportedly came to Cooper's home in 2022 and found 12 dusty bags of mail in the attic. The mailman then explained that the bags were already in the house when he moved in. The carpenter did not believe him and went to the police.
Law enforcement officers later visited Jason and found mountains of undelivered mail in the attic from 2020 to 2021. Some of the letters and packages had been opened, but the contents, including bank cards, remained untouched. Interestingly, about 700 of the items had to be delivered in person - for this he received extra pay.
Cooper pleaded guilty to delaying and opening the letters. During the hearing, the judge noted that the defendant deserved a real prison term, but decided to sentence him to a year of probation and 200 hours of community service, taking into account the presence of three young children. At the same time, if the postman breaks the law in the next two years, he will be sent to prison.
It is known that after the details of this story were revealed, Jason Cooper was fired from the post office.
