Female captain sank a New Zealand Navy warship (5 photos + 1 video)
Rumor has it that the lady was also a lesbian, but we won't stoop to such suspicions. The news is interesting enough.
The New Zealand warship Manawanui ran aground and sank off the coast of Samoa. The ship's value is $63 million, which is not so little by today's standards. The vessel belonged to New Zealand, it was acquired from Norway in 2018, retrofitted with diving and hydrography systems required by the Defence Forces, and was used to perform special diving, rescue and research tasks in the south-west Pacific Ocean. Among other things, the vessel could perform special tasks, including the disposal of explosives, raising sunken ships.
At the time of the emergency, there were 75 crew members and passengers on board (including four servicemen of foreign armed forces and seven civilians) - everyone managed to escape.
After the evacuation, two passengers were taken to hospital: one with a dislocated shoulder and the other with a back injury. Another 12 to 15 people received minor cuts and abrasions while walking along the reef.
As for the causes of the tragedy, it is known that the ship first ran aground near Upolu Island and tilted heavily. At that time, the vessel was conducting reconnaissance at a distance of about one nautical mile (1,852 meters) from the shore and, according to media reports, collided with a coral reef. Then a fire broke out on board, after which the ship sank.

Yvonne Gray, captain of the Manawanui, was appointed to the position in December 2022, and this is her first experience of commanding a ship.

Defense Minister Judith Collins said it was a "sad day" for the Navy because of the loss of the ship, but the fact that no one was killed was a "triumph".
A judicial investigation will be launched into the incident.
