The shocking incident took place at a small GoLocal shop in Manchester on Sunday evening. Masked thugs stormed the quiet shop and poured flammable liquid on the floor in an attempt to start a fire.
CCTV footage from the shop shows the thugs pouring petrol on the floor as terrified shoppers flee the store.
The thugs then set the flames on fire, but at that moment one of them accidentally sets himself on fire.
Street CCTV footage shows the criminals running away, with one of them having to put out the flames on his own as he ran.
Luckily, the store's employees - the owner's brothers, Zafa, work as salespeople - managed to put out the fire before it spread throughout the building.
"Thank God no one was hurt," says Zaf. "My brothers quickly realized what to do, ran to the utility room for buckets of water and put the fire out. But the damage was still significant - about £15,000."
Greater Manchester Police are investigating the incident as arson but are not yet considering it racially motivated. Shop owner Zaf is shocked by the incident but is relieved no one was hurt.
