A patient in Atlanta sues doctors who lost a piece of his skull (3 photos + 1 video)
Due to the negligent attitude of doctors, the man ended up owing them $146,000. 
In short, the situation there was as follows. Fernando Cluster suffered a serious stroke in 2022. He underwent emergency surgery and temporarily removed part of his skull - 11 x 15 cm. A follow-up surgery to reattach the skull piece was scheduled for November 2022. But when Cluster returned to Emory for the surgery, the hospital couldn't find his piece. There were all sorts of other pieces, but they clearly weren't his.
The lawsuit says "there were multiple bone flaps with incomplete or missing patient identification, and therefore doctors could not be certain which, if any, belonged to Mr. Cluster."
So that the man would not live with a hole in his skull, it was decided to make a synthetic plate to replace it. No sooner said than done, the plate was inserted, but it did not take root, and they had to cut it again. After Fernando was finally released from the hospital, he received a bill for $146,000. Both for the operations and for making the plate, which did not take root.
The man's family was despondent and went to court to sort things out with the doctors. The doctors, for their part, said they would not comment on the pending lawsuit, adding only that "Emory Healthcare is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care to patients and those we serve in our communities."
