Experts are confident that the Leaning Garisenda Tower will fall (3 photos)
Did you know how many leaning towers there are in the world? 55, however, one of them was destroyed in 2017, but still. Why do you need this information, I have no idea, but now live with it.
So another leaning tower decided to leave the list and fall. This wayward medieval Garisenda tower is located in the Italian city of Bologna, next to another even taller and crooked Asinelli tower.
The Asinelli Tower was built at the beginning of the 12th century, its height is 97.2 meters, and the slope of the upper part from the axis is 2.2 meters. After 2 centuries, local builders decided to outdo their ancestors and build a straight, high tower, but something went wrong. As a result, in three years they erected a 60-meter tower, with a tilt of more than 3 meters. A few years later, it was decided to reduce the height of the dangerous tower to 48 meters, the top was safely dismantled, and so it has existed to this day.
To prevent the towers from collapsing on the heads of onlookers, they are regularly restored, but in October 2023, readings from sensors that measure the movement of the ancient towers showed an increase in inclination. The city authorities decided to surround the tower with a fence and blocked traffic on nearby streets and prohibited tourists from climbing the dangerous object.
It’s just not known when Garisenda will fall; the experts themselves are sure that she will definitely fall, but they wisely do not specify the date of the fall.
