It is reported that this nuclear power plant was once considered a symbol of the country's energy independence.
In Germany, the cooling towers of the nuclear power plant in Grafenrheinfeld (Bavaria) were demolished using a controlled explosion. It is reported that the 143-meter cooling towers were planned to be blown up on Friday at 17:30, but the event had to be postponed until 20:00 due to an activist who opposed the destruction of one of the cooling elements of the nuclear power plant. The supporter of nuclear energy chained himself to a support at a height of 10 meters and had to be dealt with.
During the demolition of the cooling towers, local media write, about 55 thousand concrete debris were formed
The nuclear power plant with a capacity of 1345 MW operated from 1982 to 2015 and was switched off as part of the policy of phasing out nuclear energy in Germany. The station was a symbol of Germany's energy independence and generated more than 11% of electricity for Bavaria.
"These two towers have been with us for as long as I can remember. They are an important landmark. They have always been a symbol for us," said Christian Keller, the mayor of Grafenrheinfeld, after the demolition of the cooling towers.
