A whole film was assembled from memes about cats (2 photos + 1 video)
"73 minutes of happiness" — this is how viewers rated the film about cats, assembled from Internet memes. The author Will Braden spent 4 months selecting memes with cats, corresponding with the authors and editing.
The author of the film and the organizer of the Cat Video Fest festival Will Braden watched 15 thousand videos and chose the best of them. It took the director four months to select, edit and communicate with the authors.
"This is my full-time job. My business cards say that I watch videos with cats," Braden told the publication's journalists. He added that he had previously made a series of short films about a “depressed cat” from France. According to the author of unusual films, he did not plan to do this when he was in school, but was sure that he would become “the next Martin Scorsese.”
A Variety editor who attended one of the screenings said that the film was like “your grandmother’s Facebook feed.” There is no uniformity between the videos, and they are not united by a “large narrative.”
But the audience was delighted. Some came to the premiere prepared, complementing their looks with headbands in the form of cat ears.
In two days of distribution, the film collected $280 thousand - the author will send part of the proceeds to animal shelters.
