The construction set pieces are small and designed to create small, simple figures. But robots are usually large and complex. Is it possible to somehow combine them?
Japanese artist Mitsuru Nikaido has found a way.
In science fiction, mecha are giant robots or machines, usually depicted as controlled and human-like walking vehicles. The term was first used in Japanese as a shortening of the English word "mechanism."
A Japanese artist named Mitsuru Nikaido has taken the idea of mecha to the next level by creating mecha creatures out of LEGO.
When creating his sculptures, the Japanese LEGO enthusiast uses a cyberpunk aesthetic and a gray color palette to highlight his signature style. His collection includes LEGO sculptures of walruses, spiders, crayfish, cicadas, triceratops, beetles, and even microscopic water bears called tardigrades.
Nikaido uses mostly gray LEGO pieces, using bright colors to highlight the animal's distinctive features, like a pair of phosphorescent eyes or a shiny beak. While any of Nikaido's sculptures can be impressive without any movement, some of his works feature spring-loaded limbs, flexible joints, and a wagging tail.
