A very rare 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona sports car is planned to be sold for more than $1.4 million (30 photos)
Mecum's online auction will offer a very rare Dodge Charger Daytona for auction in mid-August. The range of options, as the auction house notes, makes it unique. This example could break the auction price record for the model, which currently stands at $1.43 million.
In total, Dodge produced only 503 Charger Daytona units in 1969. Only 70 of them received a 7.0-liter V8 Hemi engine developing 425 hp, and only 22 cars had it with a four-speed manual transmission.
At the buyer's request, the car was equipped with possibly all the options available for the Charger Daytona at that time. These include a redesigned chassis, a more powerful engine cooling system, a number of weight-saving measures, stronger brakes and a suite of luxury interior equipment, including power windows and a six-way power driver's seat. The seats themselves, which have a sportier configuration, and a steering wheel with wood trim are also an option.
The auction house separately notes that there is no other Dodge Charger Daytona in the world known with such a combination of exterior and interior trim - both the body and interior of the sports car are made in green tones. Several years ago the car underwent a deep restoration.
