An old but rare 2002 BMW M5 sold for $130,000 (52 photos)

While it was night in Moscow, a serious “battle” broke out on the other side of the Atlantic for the right to become the owner of an old BMW M5 in the back of an E39 produced in 2002. The charged Bavarian sedan was in the hands of the masters of the Dinan studio and received the additional index S3 in the name. Moreover, the set of modifications turned out to be so extensive that the car acquired several additional license plates under the hood and two new indexes: S2 and S3.





Actually, initially a brand new BMW M5 2002 model year, purchased in Canada, went to Alabama, where the Dinan studio is located, to receive the S2 package, which includes new intake and exhaust systems, including manifolds and throttle bodies with “pipes”, ECU reconfiguration, more “evil” shafts, a limited-slip differential with the main pair shortened to 3.45, front and rear body struts, lowered suspension and a number of other parts, along with an individual number hidden under the hood. In addition to better handling than the standard M5, the Dinan S2 boasted an increase of almost 80 horsepower from the flywheel.

The M5 drove in this form until 2007, when the owner wanted to add a little more horsepower. The car was taken back to Dinan to have the S3 package installed. One of its main components is the drive supercharger. The final output of the 4.9-liter V8 is 625 forces and 680 Nm versus 400 forces and 500 Nm for the standard S62B50. Also, improvements under the S3 program include new Dinan Champion wheels, Brembo brakes, a lighter flywheel, a stronger clutch, etc. After the completion of the modifications, another plate appeared under the hood of the M5, this time with the 28th serial number. It is believed that the studio produced only 33 Dinan S3s.

Finished in Le Mans Blue Metallic, the sedan is said to be in exceptional condition. The interior upholstery was ordered through the BMW Individual program, so the inserts on the seats and door panels are made in the same color as the body. The car has undergone all the necessary maintenance, is shod with a set of new Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and only 24 thousand miles (about 38.6 thousand km) appear on its odometer, three of which were clocked by the current owner, who bought the car in 2017.

As a result, the new owner did not spare $130,000 to become the owner of this car.
