The man who climbed a mountain alone (7 photos)
This Indian is a true hero who has committed an act that restores faith in humanity. Somehow he decided to shorten the path through the mountain for his village, and alone he was able to “overcome” it. It took him 20 years.
Great Mountain Man
In India, many people know about Dashrath Manjhi, but there they call him the Mountain Man. Due to the fact that he persistently cut through the mountain for so many years, he was remembered by several generations of Indians.
And even though he died back in 2007, there is still a memorial in his honor by the road. And in 2016, a stamp was issued in his honor.
This is a monument to the Gone Man, but somehow it doesn’t look like it, and for some reason it’s black
The best thing is that Dashrath was from a lower caste, and this did not stop him from becoming an extremely respected person in the country in the 70s precisely for the strength of his deed.
Why Mountain Man Decided to DIG
His family from a lower caste lived in the village of Geluar, very remote from civilization. This is because the village was built among the mountains, and to get to the nearest point of civilization, it was necessary to wind through the mountains for 60 kilometers. And then, when this story began in 1960, the population had very little transport.
Therefore, to get to the city, residents climbed over a rocky mountain. This took several hours, but to walk 60 kilometers, it took several days. Therefore, every time they risked their lives, but climbed 8 kilometers through the mountains.
What surprises me is how sometimes Indians manage to work in completely white clothes
And those who enrolled their children in school were forced to train their children in this “extreme rock climbing.”
Dashrath's wife once carried lunch across this mountain pass for a family who was working in a mountain plot. She fell off the cliff and crashed. The woman could still be saved, but the hospital was too far away and there was no transport. The woman died from fractures and internal bleeding.
And then Dashrath had nothing left in life, his family broke down. He found a new meaning in life in saving the village from mountain captivity.
Sooner or later, this torment must end, and no one will end it except man!

And he began to cut down the mountain. He took a shovel, a pick, everything he could find, and went one morning to cut a passage through the mountain.
The locals mocked and laughed at Manji, but, apparently, he coped with grief easier this way. But he went out to fight the mountain over and over again. And gradually the locals imbued him with his determination.
They started bringing him food so he could rest and eat. Someone brought tools, someone came to work with him for a couple of hours. But the main driver of “gnawing through” the mountain was always the stubborn Manji.
Now there are even tractors driving along its road!
And so he worked for 20 years, from 1960 to 1982, when the road was finally ready! An excellent “trail” emerged, 9 meters wide and 110 meters long. And now, instead of 8 kilometers through the mountains, the villagers only need to walk three, and even then not on high slopes.
The life of the village has changed dramatically! Especially for schoolchildren.

Sad memory
The authorities continued the real asphalt road to his native village of Gulear after Manjhi’s death. But it’s exactly through the passage that the man has been chopping for 20 years.
But the locals still remember WHO paved the way through the mountain. And this is a representative of a lower caste, who proved that everyone is capable of a feat, regardless of birth. According to Hindu faith, we wish that in his next life he will be born a happy rich man! Or maybe he was already born and will soon be of age.
And this is how the road began to look in the 21st century
