Amazing stories that really happened always associated with wealth or fame. And the case I'm about to tell this time, is not like anything else.

In fact, today's story is as incredible as it is touching. After all, Dashrat Manji literally turned a mountain in the name of love, using only a hammer and a chisel.

Dashrat Manji

Despite the fact that few people in the world know about this man nicknamed "Mountain Man", in India he is very popular and is a symbol perseverance, willpower and devotion to his idea.

Dashrat was born in 1934 in the Indian state of Bihar, and if more precisely, in a small village near the city of Gaya, whose name sounds like Jalor. The man came from a lower caste, which meant that his whole life was a struggle for survival.

Manji started working when he was not even 10 years old. A little getting stronger, he went to even more difficult work - in coal mines Dhanbad. After working there for 7 years, Dashrat was finally able to afford marry a local girl with whom he has been in love for many years. Her name was Falguni Devi.

After that, Manji became a day laborer on agricultural fields, earning $1 a day, barely enough to eat for young family. Soon a child was born to them, and Dashrat began to work more more to feed their loved ones.

Soon Falguni became pregnant for the second time, she and Dashrat with they were looking forward to the birth of their second child, but the trouble came - from nowhere waited.

The village of Jelor, where the Dashrat family lived, was surrounded by mountains and located away from major cities. Because of this the villagers had to make a walk every day through dangerous cliffs, because there were simply no roads there.

In India, it is customary for wives to bring food to their husbands. Here in this once, in the spring of 1959, Falguni, being 8 months pregnant, went with food and drink for Dashrat. Unfortunately it started to rain and Devi slipped on rocks...

When the inhabitants of Gelor found Falguni at the foot of the mountain, life was already left her body. Perhaps if the woman had been taken to the hospital in time, then Devi could have been saved. But the nearest clinic was 70 kilometers, and they simply did not have time to take her there. Wife died right on hands of Dashrat.

Manji was heartbroken and angry at the same time because of it. monstrous misfortune. He swore to himself and the people of Gelor that he would not allow a repetition of such tragedies. To do this, he was going to lay a short cut right through the mountain.

His every blow echoed in the valley, and people wondered why he still hasn't quit this, in their opinion, a disastrous business.

- Everyone said to Dashrat: "You can't do it", "U nothing will work out for you" or "Quit doing stupid things" - says his nephew, Dahu Manji. - But uncle silently waved his hammer and continued to work.

It remains to admire the diligence and strength of Dashrat, who for the next 22 years he worked to make a road through the mountain. He worked even in winter, when the temperature dropped below 0 degrees, then Dashrat kindled a fire on a rocky slope to make it easier for him split the next boulder.

By the way, local residents eventually began to help him, someone brought him food, and someone helped to carry stones. There were also those who did not I liked Dashrat's initiative. So, his father constantly scolded his son for the fact that he did not marry a second time, and the police threatened to arrestbeat him up "dangerously discrediting the Indian authorities."

By this time, Manji had already become quite famous in India, and, to Fortunately, he managed to escape prison. Just at that time they gave him nickname "Mountain Man" or "Highlander Man".
