Rusty 1936 Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux put up for auction (26 photos)

A 1936 Bugatti Type 57 Ventoux coupe has been put up for auction online at Bring a Trailer. The car has been disassembled, partially dismantled and requires a large amount of restoration work. However, three days before the end of the auction, more than 100 thousand dollars are already being offered for it.





The car with chassis number 57364 was ready in February 1936. It was commissioned by circus director and trainer Roger Spiesser. The surviving original mascot in the form of a sitting elephant is a reference to the profession of the first owner.

During the first two years of its life, the Bugatti coupe changed owners twice. It was found abandoned in Paris already in the 1950s. The car was then transported to the USA, but the restoration process never began. The new owner will have to deal with this.

About 700 examples of the Type 57 were built between 1934 and 1940. The one up for sale is equipped with a four-seater coupe body, a 3.3-liter engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. The unit numbers correspond to the original ones.

The body, with peeling black paint and numerous traces of rust, sits on 18-inch spoked wheels, but cannot move independently. The power unit and almost all interior elements have been removed, the brakes are not connected. Some details are completely lost.
