Rare American 1999 Callaway C12 supercar put up for auction (24 photos)
One of the 19 assembled Callaway C12 supercars has appeared on the online auction Bring a Trailer. Four days before the end of the auction, they offer 72 thousand dollars for it. Not much considering the rarity of the model and the presence on the ceiling of the autograph of driver Dale Earnhardt Jr., a two-time NASCAR champion and two-time Daytona 500 winner. 
The American supercar Callaway C12 is based on the production Chevrolet Corvette. This example with serial number 18 is equipped with a 6.2-liter V8 with a capacity of 482 hp. Through a 6-speed manual transmission, power is directed to the rear wheels. Maximum speed is 309 km/h.
The supercar is equipped with variable power steering and all-round ventilated disc brakes, which are hidden behind wheels measuring 295/30 R19. The roof panel is removable, turning the coupe into a targa in good weather. Comfort options include dual-zone climate control, power accessories and an audio system with a Kenwood head unit and Bose speakers.
The door handles, glass and the shape of the front doors remain on the body from the original Corvette. The body is original, made of carbon fiber and Kevlar. And, for example, the rear lights are taken from the modest European Opel Tigra coupe. The original Chevrolet interior on Callaway has been refined: simple plastic is almost everywhere covered with genuine leather.
Over 25 years, the car has traveled a little more than 40 thousand kilometers. A year and a half ago, the shock absorbers were replaced and the generator was repaired. Now the car is in excellent condition, completely ready for use.
