A Russian tourist who came to buy marijuana was stabbed to death in Thailand (8 photos)
Phuket police discovered the body of 41-year-old Arthur Mkhitaryan in a house where cannabis was grown and sold.
The search for the Russian began when Mkhitaryan’s girlfriend contacted the police with a request to track the whereabouts of her man. He rented a car, drove it two days ago, and since then has not responded to phone calls.
The police found Mkhitaryan’s car near a house known as a point of sale of partially legalized cannabis in the country. The body of a man was found in a locked house with traces of deep cuts on his neck and body. In front of the home, police said, signs of a struggle were found.
Phuket police officers found out that the house was rented for a long time by a mixed couple - a Thai woman and her foreign partner. Previously, there was an office of a travel company here, but after the pandemic, when this business sank, a point selling cannabis products was opened in the mansion. Thailand partially legalized marijuana in 2022, and tourists often flocked here to buy cigarettes. You could immediately smoke a joint, because... the use of cannabis products in public places is still prohibited.
The Russian tourist arrived in Thailand on January 28, and has been there with his girlfriend since then. He took advantage of a three-month visa-free permit to stay in the country, which expired on April 26.
What happened in the house where marijuana was sold is still unknown. However, the Thai police have already identified a suspect in Mkhitaryan's murder - according to media reports, the criminal arrived in Thailand on January 12 and left the country on Tuesday, March 12, taking a direct flight to Istanbul. The SHOT Telegram channel published the name of the suspect - this is a citizen of Tajikistan, Bakhtovar Murozoda,
Whether the citizen of Tajikistan will be caught and extradited or the suspect will remain at large is still unknown.
