In India, a supersonic Tejas fighter crashed during an exercise (5 photos + 2 videos)
It was developed over 30 years and entered service in 2015.
A lot of time, money and effort went into creating the Tejas fighter. They were constantly improved, redesigned, and eventually abandoned. But it took more than 30 years and $1.3 billion.
The plane accelerates to 1.9 thousand km/h, the flight range is about two thousand kilometers. The fighter is equipped with a 23-mm cannon and also has eight hardpoints for air-to-air missiles, air-to-ground missiles, guided bombs and free-fall bombs.
Since 2015, it has been in service with the Indian Air Force. Then it was valued at $26.3 million and was considered the cheapest car of this level. Now the price has increased, but remains within the range of 30-40 million dollars (there are also more expensive ones, it depends on the modification).
Today the fighter took part in large-scale military exercises and something went wrong. The pilot ejected, and the car crashed to the ground and exploded.
The cause of the accident is still unknown, an investigation is ongoing. This is the first crash of this fighter model.
