The British discovered a deep well under their house during renovation (7 photos)

A resident of Dalton-in-Furness (Cumbria, UK), Louise Watson, said that during the construction of an extension to the kitchen, workers found an old well under her house, 7 meters deep and 1 meter in diameter. The find was very unexpected!

The reservoir was discovered under an old building next to a 130-year-old terrace. The top of the brick-lined well, covered with a heavy slate slab, was found approximately half a meter below the surface of the ground.

When the well was opened and a camera was lowered into it, it turned out that inside there was a column of crystal clear water about two meters high.

Some horror fans urged Louise Watson to keep the old well securely covered, fearing that a ghostly girl might emerge from it, as in the 2002 film The Ring.

But the owner of the house really liked the look of the well and its old-fashioned lining. So she turned it into a design element for her new kitchen - covering it with a glass lid so she could see inside.

“It's absolutely beautiful inside. We were shocked because we thought the inside would be dirty, but it was perfectly preserved,” says Louise. “We thought there might be treasure or a body there.” Some people say they would be very scared if there was a well under their house, and some people say, "Never watch The Ring." I'm lucky in that I rarely watch movies, especially horror, so it doesn't bother me. Now we have made a beautiful picture out of the well. We added three light fixtures and made strong glass so you could walk on it.”

Louise Watson said she and her husband began work on extending the back of their home last year. The three-bed cottage, previously built for iron ore miners, was occupied by her father-in-laws, and ten years ago the couple and their 11-year-old son moved into it.

But when construction workers were digging the foundation for a new part of the house in August, they came across a strange stone slab under the old shed. And then Louise received a call from her husband saying that they had discovered a water well extending deep beneath their property.

“We have been living in this house for ten years. My husband lived here as a child with his family - they lived here for about 25-30 years, and none of us even knew this well was here. Obviously someone hid it."

“There is no stream nearby, the water flows down the walls and is simply fed by the natural groundwater level. I ordered test kits from Amazon to check the alkalinity of the water and it was nothing like tap water - we were amazed. We thought about making our own plumbing, but found that it would cost around £5,000 to get started, so we decided against it.”

“This area, where houses were later built, was once farmland,” says Louise. “Therefore, we assume that the well remains here from those times, but this is not certain. In general, I was very interested in our find, I would like to know the history of this well.”

In any case, Louise Watson's family is delighted with the unusual decoration of their kitchen with a glass peephole.
