Lavish Gold-Draped Wedding Prompts Police Probe (2 Photos + 2 Videos)
The wedding of social media personality and fashion entrepreneur Çağla Öz to blogger Mehmet Fatih Tançalan—known as "Black Haydar of Van"—in the Turkish city of Van has drawn widespread attention over its staggering display of gold and cash. 
Turkish law enforcement has launched an investigation into the lavish gifts and cash presented to the newlyweds. According to news outlet Haberler, the bride wore an astonishing 52 kilograms of gold, while the groom was gifted 44 million Turkish liras.
The nuptials took place on September 6 in the Tuşba district of Van. During the ceremony, the bride’s arms were heavily draped in gold bangles. When her arms ran out of space, the remaining bracelets were strung onto a thick gold chain placed around her neck.
The vast array of gold, fine jewelry, foreign currency, and Turkish liras showered on the couple quickly caught the eye of authorities. Investigators are now scrutinizing whether the extravagant gifts align with the couple's declared official incomes.
Additionally, authorities are looking into the origin of the precious metal itself, with Turkey's Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) actively examining the matter.
Mehmet Fatih Tançalan’s name has also surfaced in connection with a separate criminal investigation.
He faces charges of insulting the state and public institutions, as well as laundering proceeds of crime. Following a court ruling, Tançalan was placed under arrest.
The influencer has denied all allegations, claiming that most of the engagement and wedding expenses were covered through advertising and sponsorship deals.
Tançalan further stated that not all the gold displayed at the ceremony was their personal property, claiming several pieces were temporarily borrowed from local jewelers for the occasion.
Turkish law enforcement continues to investigate the origin of the 52 kilograms of gold, 44 million Turkish liras, and other gifts, checking them against the couple's verified earnings. MASAK is also conducting a full probe into the case.
