The size of a fist: Man Finds $66K Gold Bar (4 Photos + 1 Video)
The father of two, who quit his job several years ago due to health problems, noted that this find will greatly help his family financially.
Australian treasure hunter Luke Phillips found a fist-sized gold bar under a rotten log in Victoria. The value of this find reaches 66 thousand US dollars.
The man was not sure until the very end whether it was really gold, because the old metal detector he uses often gives false signals.
"Sometimes you dig down with great hope, but you end up finding an old rusty nail, a horseshoe or a lead bullet," he says.
Luke decided to sell the nugget, which weighed 793 grams, of which 595 grams were gold and the rest were quartz. The amount of the deal remains confidential, but it is estimated that the treasure hunter received between 52 and 66 thousand US dollars.
The father of two, who quit his job several years ago due to health problems, noted that this find will greatly help his family financially.
"I'm not a rich person, so this will help me change my life. Of course, I won't be able to retire early, but I'll pay my bills, put the rest towards a mortgage or buy a car," Phillips added.
Until January of this year, the man regularly posted videos on his YouTube channel, digging up old coins and historical artefacts.
