The Frenchman spent 8 years assembling the Eiffel Tower from matches, but never became a record holder (5 photos + 1 video)
Richard Plaud's dream was crushed when his record was not counted. In 8 years, the man assembled a copy of the Eiffel Tower 7 m high. However, experts did not even look at his creation, since the Frenchman used special matches.
The 47-year-old municipal employee does not agree with the commission's decision: "I am disappointed and upset. This is incomprehensible and not very fair. My dream is destroyed."
In an angry post on social media, he added: “Tell me how 706,900 sticks stuck into each other are not matches?”
Plaud works in the arts and bridges department of the council of the Charente-Maritime department in southwest France. He completed his project on December 27, the 100th anniversary of the death of engineer Gustave Eiffel.
The Frenchman could break the record of the Lebanese master Toufik Daher, who in 2009 created a model of the Eiffel Tower 6.53 meters high.
Plaud became interested in construction as a child. Initially, he bought ordinary matches for his works.
However, the process of creating such a massive structure seemed too difficult to him, so he persuaded the match manufacturer Flam'Up to supply him with products without ignition heads.
It is worth noting that representatives of the Guinness Book of Records required that the product consist of matches without heads. It just turned out that I had to clean off the wax myself.
According to the craftsman's calculations, he spent 4,200 hours of his time on the project.
