Golden Retriever: why is this breed ideal only from the outside? (8 photos)
The Golden Retriever is a friendly dog breed that is relatively easy to train. It would seem like an ideal pet. However, there is still a fly in the ointment.
So much is written about this breed! They are super smart, protective, and can almost cook breakfast in bed. But let's be honest, among canine society, the Golden Retriever is the blonde from the jokes. Yes, it’s very cool to have an always cheerful and mischievous dog nearby. It’s especially cool when she’s not yours, and it’s not yours to clean up all the nasty jokes either. But are you ready to live with a carefree fool for 10-15 years?
Golden, or golden retriever, is a Scottish breed of hunting dogs that have been used since ancient times and are now almost universal. For the last 30 years, zolotniks have consistently taken leading positions in the world tops of the most popular, smart and sought-after breeds. It doesn’t matter what query you enter into a search engine: from “the best dogs for a child” to “formidable guards of a country estate”, the first links will contain information about golden retrievers. But is this blonde dog breed really so well suited for any type of activity?
Of course not. Moreover, they are not even suitable for any family, because this is not a mythical dog that is ideal in everything, but a very real breed with its own character, needs and problems. And to understand them better, let's look at history.
It’s not for nothing that they were bred to carry game—the skill came in handy!
It all started in the 1860s. It took breeders just under 100 years to create the Golden Retriever, and in 1913 the breed became virtually independent. But fame did not come to them immediately. Initially, retrievers were bred by hunters for the sake of hunting. The dogs are famous for their “soft mouth,” that is, their ability to present prey to a man with a gun with minimal damage to the carcass. In addition, the animals have thick and dense fur - ideal for working in cold water. However, in Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries there were plenty of good hunting breeds, so even despite their mouth and fur, goldens did not win the hearts of the masses.

Everything happened in our century, when the dog became not only an assistant, but also just a companion. People quickly noticed the goldens among the rest of the pack of woolly hunters. Of course! Firstly, they are beautiful - golden, slightly wavy fur, correct proportions, smoothed corners and an expression of absolute happiness on the pug. Secondly, these dogs are very cheerful and cheerful, like a little furry sun on a leash. They are also friendly, mischievous and goofy. For this, children adore them and... some adults don’t really like them.
When you look in the mirror and see the cause of all your problems.
Because it's one thing when someone's dog is having fun and jumping. It’s another matter when it’s your personal dog who constantly fools around, gets mad and has fun for no reason. He was just having fun - he ate the sofa, dropped all the flowers, licked the cat, tore off the wallpaper, had breakfast and continued his hard day at work in the same rhythm. Contrary to all the assurances of breeders, goldens are not born smart - they are born cheerful and mischievous. And no, the Bobbies don’t understand how you can have fun and how you can’t.
Welcome to the party of good boys and girls! Make yourself at home and behave!
If you decide to get a Golden, you should under no circumstances be fooled by its sunny charm. It’s worth putting the brakes on his first jokes, and after a year you will get a funny, but completely uncontrollable dog. And then there will be no time for jokes: a wild elk weighing 30 kg with a tail can cause serious damage. Those who are especially spoiled may even bite.
If you invest a little more attention and rigor in raising your dog, you can get a wonderful combination of happiness and performance.
All the wonderful qualities of this breed are skillfully used by world dog handlers, using goldensFor search and rescue operations, detecting prohibited objects, helping the blind and unfortunate. And bobbies work just as well with shepherd dogs and labradors. Only more fun!
