The plane with its five crew members returned safely and there were no reports of injuries. Well, local social networks were filled with photos and videos of the burning plane. There's no arguing about it, it burned spectacularly.
Officials confirmed the engine caught fire but said an investigation will determine what happened. It is currently known that a post-flight inspection showed a hole with a diameter of 9 cm above the engine.
The Atlas Air plane returned to the runway about 15 minutes after takeoff.
After this incident, Boeing shares fell more than two percent. Well, over the last month they have completely dropped by about 20 percent.
Earlier this week, the company announced it would step up quality checks on its 737 Max 9 aircraft after an emergency exit door panel fell off on one of the passenger planes on an Alaska Airlines flight.
