A Miss England finalist, rugby star and finance worker gave up a successful career to pursue her lifelong dream of driving a 44-tonne truck and traveling across the UK. Model Millie Everett, rugby player Chantelle Crowle and office worker Domino Homer received a license allowing them to drive freight transport, and entered the 1% of female truck drivers in Foggy Albion.

Millie Everett

Millie Everett, 23, from Eastoft, Lincolnshire, competed for the Miss England title last year. She has competed in beauty pageants since 2017 and was crowned Miss Lincolnshire in 2018. That same year, she received the title of Miss Charity, having raised the most money for good causes.

But in 2022, the beauty queen left the catwalk and got her truck driving license to pursue her dream of becoming a truck driver.

“It was so much fun to get behind the wheel of a big truck,” Ms. Everett said. “I love the freedom the job gives me because I get to travel all over the country and the pay is great.”

The model decided to become a truck driver after the Covid pandemic, Brexit and other factors led to a shortage of truck drivers across the country.

Millie grew up on a farm surrounded by heavy machinery. She drove a tractor and believed that she could handle driving a heavy truck.

She was also inspired by the fact that less than one percent of UK truck drivers are women. She says the growing industry is "really exciting" and encourages other women to join its ranks.

“My advice to any woman who is thinking about going into logistics is to just go for it,” she said. “With so many jobs and training opportunities, it’s a really exciting industry.”

She dreamed of driving a truck since childhood: “I always had this goal. I should have done it at the age of 18. But first there was school, and then the pandemic happened.”

Chantel Crowl

Chantelle Crowle, 30, is known for her rugby success, but when she's not on the field she's traveling around the country in a truck.

Crowl was born in Toronto, Canada, and has been playing rugby since she was eight years old.

In her free time, the St Helens and England striker delivers beer kegs and other supplies to pubs and clubs across the UK.

The girl likes a flexible schedule and the ability to decide how much she works.

Commenting on the lack of women in the industry, she added: "My advice is just go for it if that's what you want to do. It's a free world and equal opportunities for everyone."

She claims that work helps her in sports. Crowl remains “healthy and strong” because she quite often unloads the car herself, without the need for outside help.

An athlete feels in great shape if she has had a hard day at work.

Domino Homer

A finance employee gave up her career to live on the road. Domino Homer now works for Buffaload Logistics, a trucking company.

The girl supports herself from a young age, and she “didn’t have a lot of money,” which made it difficult for her to decide on a profession.

In 2021, after working in jobs she didn't enjoy for several years, she got her Class C driver's license and left the financial industry. The following year she obtained her CE license to become a fully qualified HGV driver.

“At school, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. I thought about becoming a hairdresser,” Homer recalls.

But I've always loved being on the road, whether behind the wheel or in the passenger seat."

The British woman failed her first exam for category C: “I think stress played its part. It was very windy and there was a thunderstorm. There was also Covid. Everyone was wearing masks, the windows were closed.”

She passed the exam on the second dayaza and received the CE category on the first try. Homer also has a motorcycle and car license.

Domino loves her job, but admits it has its challenges. In addition to physical activity, the girl often has to stay late at work, leaving not much time for her personal life.

Among the benefits: meeting new people, a feeling of freedom and independence.

Homer encourages women into her profession: "Follow your heart. The only way to know if a job is right for you is to try. Life is too short for regrets, so go for it and don't let anything stop you."
