700 years of solitude, where the loneliest monk in the world lives (5 photos + 1 video)

There is a Rituo Temple in Tibet that is over 700 years old. It is located on the hill of an island on the lake, and according to tradition, it is customary for only one monk to live here, otherwise there will be no harmony.

From Tibetan, Rituo is translated as Stone on the Mountain. The building really rises on a stone mountain and stands out in rich color against the background of blurred, peaceful colors of Tibet.

The road to the temple is also several hundred years old. So, once upon a time there was a line of pilgrims coming here?

According to legend, a special stone is kept here that can cure all diseases. Why then only one person lives next to the stone is a mystery; there are also critically few pilgrims coming here. There is some kind of unsolved logical riddle in this stone!

The sacred lake Yamdroka, on which this temple stands, is considered one of the three sacred lakes of Tibet. It would be disrespectful for entire communities to settle there, thereby polluting it with their waste products.

The temple looks more like a house, but the house is really big for one

Visitors to the lake and the temple truly as one note the incredible calm that spreads throughout the valley around the temple. Here you can see wild flocks of Tibetan antelopes, not frightened by people.

Alone, always alone

The current loneliest monk is named Ahwang Pinkuo. He is not the first and not the last of a series of loners of the temple. When he dies, they will not know about it right away. But then in his place there will definitely be a volunteer monk who craves absolute solitude.

How can you understand that the monk is no longer there if there is no one else there?

What does the only monk living in the middle of the desert, and then in the middle of the lake, do all day?

Meditates and takes care of himself. Because you have to go down the mountain to get water, and he walks up and down with wooden buckets several times a day.

This is exactly how they will find out sooner or later that the monk has died - no one will go down even once during the day to fetch water. You can also listen to see if he is chanting the prescribed mantras. But the island is located on a lake, and it is difficult to hear them.

By his loneliness he shows the strength of his faith, so it is believed. That only faith and the power of meditation allows monks to keep their minds pure.

Unfrightened animals run around the temple, no one hunts them

What do you think is wrong with this stone that cures all diseases if only one person lives next to it?
