A Briton Dies During a Hair Transplant in Turkey (3 photos)
Turkey is a popular destination in the world of medical tourism, especially among the British. Martin James Latchman came to Istanbul for a hair transplant. The 38-year-old man went to the private Dr. CINIK Hospital in Besiktas, and the hair transplant procedure was scheduled for July 28.
The man developed complications before the procedure and was rushed to the hospital, where he died. At first, it was said that Latchman became ill after the operation, but the clinic later denied this.
Last year, Turkish doctors performed Latchman's first hair transplant, which was a success. CINIK's website says the clinic has "changed the lives of thousands of patients" over two decades. It's worth noting that the clinic has a 4.8 rating on Google and counts Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand among its clients.
Latchman worked as an assistant to the headmaster and was an avid runner. On social media, he has been called an inspiration and motivation.
An investigation has been launched into the sudden death of a British man.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Dr. Chinik said: "We are deeply saddened by the passing of our patient. In July 2024, he underwent a hair transplant at our clinic and was pleased with the result, returning for a repeat procedure."
He explained that all the necessary medical examinations were carried out thoroughly. This probably included blood tests, chest X-rays and an ECG.
"These examinations were carried out under the supervision of an anesthesiologist who gave permission for the operation," he continued. "However, during the preparation phase, the patient suddenly became ill for unknown reasons. Medical assistance was immediately provided and he was rushed to the university hospital."
Despite intensive treatment, the man died that evening.
The clinic reported that authorities had received all the necessary medical documentation on the incident. The management denied the information about the patient's death during the procedure.
