Dhaka is a city where there is no place to bury your relatives (7 photos)

Large cities, such as China, always have a problem with the capacity of cemeteries. In Bangladesh's Dhaka, the crisis of space in the city cemetery has reached the point where it is constantly being dug up.

If you pay for burial and bury a relative, there is no guarantee that you will find his grave the next time you visit it.

To find a place for new bodies, authorities are digging up old graves. Every year the standard of “old age” for digging a grave decreased.

Stone monuments are not erected, where do the poor people get their money from? Signs only

Now it is possible to demolish a grave and dig a new one in its place after 2 years from the date on the monument. But many locals say they were not given even two years of memory.

When the place is dug up, all the signs are demolished. And since neighboring graves are also replaced with fresh ones, after a year it is already impossible to even approximately find where your grandmother’s grave was.

And this is the Dhaka rickshaw cemetery, there is plenty of room for littering.

The cemetery actually looks very densely built up, while most of the graves are quite fresh and do not have time to grow overgrown with perennial plants.

What about the crematorium?

In China, this is solved with the help of crematoria and electronic burial vaults. But in Dhaka it is forbidden to burn bodies; you can only bury the body.

There is nothing easier than pulling out the sign and turning it over for scrap metal

There are 8 state cemeteries in the city, but those who are richer are trying to buy a place in a private one in order to have at least some guarantee that it will not be demolished.

The second option is to take the relative’s body out of town and bury it in a remote village. But there are few people willing to do this. The reason for this is poverty, where does the money for transportation come from? And the inability to visit the grave later due to the high cost of bus tickets.

And this is a cemetery in China. Impressive, but everything is made of stone, you can’t tear it down quickly

Dhaka has a population of 16.6 million people with an area of 270 sq. kilometers, by the way, Moscow is 10 times larger in area, and the population is slightly less than 14 million.

That's why they live here very closely. Dhaka is practically the only place where the population can earn at least some money. Therefore, this city is considered one of the most densely populated in the world.

Dhaka is VERY crowded. Very, Closer than Tokyo

And his problems, accordingly, are specific. For example, death is erasure from life.

When a resident of Dhaka dies, within a year his grave is demolished, and even his relatives have nowhere to go and remember him. It is erased without leaving a trace, because the city is so crowded that there is no room to remember dead people.
