Persistent Endo, who became a record holder despite his illness (12 photos + 1 video)
There are often situations in life that force you to give up from powerlessness. And give in to the inevitable. But this hero turned out to be not a weakling.
Endo came to his owner while still a foal. Morgan herself was very young - a 13-year-old teenager. So they grew up and matured together, enjoying a tender friendship.
Eight years ago, Morgan Wagner began to notice that something was wrong with her ward: the horse was squinting very much, tears were often flowing from him. The condition was especially aggravated during the hot season. The examination showed that Endo had recurrent uveitis, the most common cause of blindness in horses.
Recurrent uveitis
The disease is an inflammation of the uveal tract - the iris, ciliary body and choroid of the eyeball and is characterized by alternating active phases and remission. Plus, the horse was diagnosed with cataracts and glaucoma.
The treatment did not produce results. And a year later, veterinarians decided to remove the right eye. After 6 months, the second eyeball was also removed.
But the owner realized that the pet needed her help more than ever. And even before the operation, she began to train Endo, accustoming him to life in a new world for him. The girl was blindfolding the horse. At first not for long, and then I left the bandage on for longer and longer periods of time.
Even such preliminary preparation did not help to completely relieve the animal from stress. After the intervention, the horse was very scared. So Morgan started with short walks around the barn, gradually increasing the time. Then I moved on to traveling around the territory.
When Endo began to feel more confident, the owner returned to training so that the horse could again master all the tricks that were available to him before losing his sight.
Years later, he can do absolutely everything that is available to ordinary sighted horses - walk under the saddle, perform jumps, participate in exhibitions
But that is not all. Thanks to the support of the owner, Endo became a record holder and set three world records at once. The horse was able to clear the 106-centimeter high bar. This is the highest jump among blind horses. Plus, Endo showed the best result in the speed of walking around the poles and completing the distance in one minute.
Wagner is incredibly proud of his friend’s achievements and is grateful to the representatives of the Guinness Book of Records for the opportunity to show the world that blindness for horses is not a death sentence. And they are in no way inferior to their sighted brothers and do not differ from them.
