A recording of the explosion and its consequences appeared online.
The road bridge over Niagara Falls on the US-Canada border was closed after an explosion. The car, traveling at enormous speed (about 130 km/h), flew up, flew about a hundred meters and crashed into a checkpoint.
There were two people in the car; they died at the time of the explosion. Both of those killed in the explosion were residents of New York State. The FBI found out that the car was reported stolen.
At first, the FBI considered the incident a terrorist attack. A suitcase was found at the scene. Law enforcement officers did not find any traces of explosives or an explosive device during the initial inspection of the explosion site.
The investigation ended after evidence was collected. The FBI classified the incident as a traffic accident.
The FBI's Buffalo Division has completed its investigation of the Rainbow Bridge. An inspection of the scene of the incident showed the absence of explosive materials and no connection with terrorism was identified. The case has been referred to Niagara Falls police as a traffic accident, the release said.
A few hours later, traffic was opened on three of the four bridges previously closed due to the explosion, Reuters reports.
