92-year-old Spaniard Alfredo Aliaga set a new record - he crossed the famous Grand Canyon on foot from rim to rim. The active retiree is already looking forward to going camping next year. Everyone has so much energy at this age!
On October 14, 92-year-old Spaniard Alfredo Aliaga, along with his daughter, son-in-law and two other travel companions, hiked through one of the seven natural wonders of the world - the Grand Canyon. After more than two days of hiking, Alfredo became the oldest person in the world to cross the canyon from the North Rim to the South Rim, beating the previous record holder. The entire journey was about 39 kilometers.
This wasn't Alfredo's first rim-to-rim trek through the Grand Canyon. He had done it several times before, but this time he was supported by hundreds of people. Alfredo himself has a doctorate in geology and has always been fascinated by rocks. After retiring in 1996, he and his wife spent a year traveling around the United States and various national parks in a van. He and his wife traveled and went hiking a lot: they went to Australia, Chile and even the base camp on Mount Everest. In 2006, Alfredo's wife died. After her death, at the age of 75, he completed a six-week trek in Nepal - more difficult than Everest.
To prepare for the record, Alfredo walked for three hours every day between January and May. At first he wanted to go for the record in May, but it didn’t work out due to weather conditions. But this time everything went well! In addition, Alfredo’s daughter published information about the hike on social networks in advance and asked other hikers to support her father. In the end, about 100 people gathered - all of them were waiting for the man at the top to cheer him on.
What is the secret of longevity and activity? According to my grandfather, this is all thanks to a healthy diet and water intake, daily exercise and 8.5 hours of sleep every night. According to him, it is never too late to start. Alfredo was over 60 years old when he began to adopt healthy habits. Meanwhile, the retiree is already looking forward to next year's hike.
