California brewers are giving away beer made from wastewater for free (2 photos)
In May 2023, brewers in California figured out how to get around the lack of water and brew beer despite the drought. Devil's Canyon employees teamed up with water treatment company Epic Cleantec to produce a wastewater-based foam.
The beer is called Epic OneWater Brew. The basis for brewing was water, which passed through the system for collection, purification and reuse. This system is installed in a 40-story residential building in San Francisco. In other words, the basis for the beer was wastewater from a high-rise building. Fortunately, the toilets are not connected to this system. Water is collected from sinks, showers and washing machines. In May, the creators of the beer were waiting for permission from the authorities.
And they didn't get it. California laws prohibit companies from marketing and selling beer. The makers of beer made from wastewater are now giving it away for free at major events to attract the attention of authorities. In addition, “garbage” beer already has fans.
An American told TechXplore that he served this beer at his wedding.
“I think our beer project showed people that the public is much more open to recycled water than we think,” the groom said.
