Germans in Spain broke the world record for “Drunk Tourism” (4 photos)
55 people from Germany gathered in a bar in Playa de Palma in Mallorca (Spain) and celebrated their arrival.
In three hours they drank more than 600 liters of beer, or to be more precise, 1254 glasses. The group, led by 62-year-old German businessman Kai Uwe Kahmann, had never met before and did not know each other personally. And they gathered in order to beat the previous record set there by other Germans. The same beer lovers drank 1111 glasses of beer in 3 hours.
“Everything was done in an orderly manner, no one lost their composure or went beyond the bounds of decency. It was a really great group and a lot of fun,” Kahmann said.
The event started at 10:30 am and ended around 1:00 pm. It actually took an hour longer than the group had originally anticipated, as they confidently boasted that they would reach the 1,200-bottle mark by midday.
They were not given a prize for this heroic feat, but they were billed for 2,380 euros.
The local government has been trying to fight “drunk tourism” for a long time and without success. In 2020, a directive was passed that aims to curb overtourism in certain areas - Playa de Palma, s'Arenal, Magaluf and the "West End" of San Francisco due to "alcohol abuse" in such areas.
Sounds like great toast! ????
