Unique Mercedes Boschert B300 with gullwing doors will be put up for sale (21 photos)

At the end of November, a one-of-a-kind Boschert B300 will be auctioned at Sotheby's in Munich. This is the result of tuner Hartmut Boschert's attempt in the second half of the 1980s to give a modern sound to the iconic 300SL Gullwing gullwings. The estimated cost of the lot is from 250 to 300 thousand euros.





Boschert took the Mercedes-Benz E-Class coupe in the C124 body as the basis for his project. He moved the rear pillars 250 millimeters forward, and also strengthened the roof and sills. The standard doors were replaced with lifting doors 1.66 meters wide - they provided access to the front and rear seats simultaneously. The front part of the Boschert B300 body was borrowed from the then-fresh Mercedes-Benz SL R129, which also became the donor of the front seats.

The standard engine, a three-liter “six”, was equipped with a supercharging system, as a result of which its output increased from 190 to 283 hp.

In 1989, Boschert presented his work at the Frankfurt Motor Show, announcing a price of 186 thousand German marks. The extremely high cost determined the failure of the project: the tuner planned to build 300 of these cars, but received orders for only 10, and the gullwing prototype remained the only one of its kind.
