The flagship sedan designed for the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party will be available for sale to anyone. The main thing is to find the right amount of money. Estimated price starts at $700,000.





China's Ministry of Industry has published certification images of the new generation Hongqi L5 sedan. This means the luxury sedan has received approval for production. The main customer, of course, is the ruling party of the People's Republic of China led by Xi Jinping, but the elite sedan will be sold to everyone. At the same time, the price of L5 is expected to start at 5 million yuan. The cost of the previous generation reached up to 6 million (820–830 thousand US dollars), although it was unattainable for those interested, regardless of the size of their fortune. It is obvious that the L5 will retain its status as the most expensive national car in the Middle Kingdom for the next ten years.

The design of the front part in retro style is a tribute to tradition. The Hongqi L5 is considered the ideological successor to the executive sedan with the CA72 index, which the brand has produced for high-ranking Chinese officials since the late 1950s.

The dimensions of the L5, according to certification data, will be 5980x2090x1710 mm with a wheelbase of 3730 mm, which makes it larger than the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, Aurus Senat and Rolls-Royce Phantom. Under the hood there will be a 4-liter V8 producing 387 hp. s., which can accelerate a large car to a maximum of 220 km/h. The motor was developed by Hongqi engineers, but it will be produced by the parent concern FAW. The car will be equipped with 21-inch wheels.

There are no official photos of the interior of the production L5 yet, but you can get an idea of the sedan’s interior from the exhibition copy from the Shanghai Auto Show.

The new car will be equipped with a set of displays that occupies the entire front panel and a massive central tunnel. The chairs will have many adjustments. The rear sofa is nominally designed for three passengers, but thanks to the central tunnel and large armrest with a built-in control panel for additional functions, it can easily be converted into two individual chairs.

The start date for official sales of Hongqi L5 has not yet been announced.
