Impressive video about hornets at a watering hole

Nature photographer Lothar Lenz shot an amazing video of hornets in his backyard in Eifel, Germany. He set up his camera near a small water tank and captured in great detail how the hornets quench their thirst and chase away other insects.

The video shows in great detail what amazing fliers the striped predators are, the details are so clear that you can even see the hairs on the insects' legs.

The video also shows how particularly aggressive hornets do everything they can to chase away other insects from a water-filled container, which they believe is their personal property.

“For several years now, I have been intensively studying hornets, wasps and paper wasps,” the man said. — In this video, shot this year in August, I show European hornets, German wasps and paper wasps during impressive takeoff and landing maneuvers in slow motion (250 and 500 frames per second)."

"Hornets are hunters that feed their young animal protein. Wasps are their favorite prey, which you can see here in close-up."

Lothar says he enjoys filming and photographing wildlife, which he does "almost every day," but notes that he is fascinated by the nature of his small village.

European hornets, like the ones seen in Lothar's video, are usually not that aggressive and like to eat mainly sugary foods, as well as grasshoppers, flies and bees.
