How a scruffy earless stray cat turned into an affectionate sissy (10 photos)

Montreal resident Isabelle one day spotted this large stray cat near her home. The white-and-red cat had no ears and his appearance was alarming; the cat clearly needed treatment. For help, Isabel turned to the Canadian cat rescue group "Chatons Orphelins Montr?al".

"The poor cat looked neglected and sick. Isabel managed to catch him and contact us. Of course, we could not refuse her help. Then on local social networks we found out that this cat had been seen in the area several times. For at least seven years he lived on street, including in severe frosty winters. He never had an owner." - says volunteer Selina Krom.

During one of the harsh winters, the cat lost both of his ears, first part of the ears fell off due to frostbite, and then the remaining part suffered due to a severe infection that developed.

A veterinarian's examination also showed that the cat was covered in fleas, as well as scars from fights with other cats or dogs. He also tested positive for FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) and had bad teeth, causing pain when eating.

The veterinarian removed several diseased teeth and the cat immediately felt better.

The cat was given the nickname Hansik, and while living on the street, he apparently lost a lot of his reserve of cat lives. Due to the immunodeficiency virus, he recovered very slowly and it took a full three months before Hansik finally began to look healthy and act like it.

“Until three months ago, he lived on the street, sick and unkempt. But now his wounds have completely healed and he again began to trust people and respond to affection. In the first days, he was so afraid that he wanted to hide from everyone, huddling in the corner of the cage.

Very, very slowly he came out of his “shell” and got used to the touch of a human hand, and then he began to climb onto our laps. Now he likes to follow us around and see what we do."

Hansik became so “tamed” that he began to love cuddles and would climb into the bed of a person in a foster family to sleep with him. He became very affectionate and gentle.

Now the society is looking for a permanent family for Hansik.
