Unique footage: a gorilla laughs just like a human! (5 photos + 1 video)
An eight-month-old gorilla fell into the hands of poachers after its parents were killed. Fortunately, animal rights activists rescued her and sent her to a monkey sanctuary in the Congo. In these footage you will see how the young gorilla is learning to enjoy life again. One of her rescuers tickles her, and she laughs in a completely human way!
The parents of an eight-month-old gorilla named Lulindu died at the hands of poachers. She herself fell into their hands to be sold as a living toy. But animal rights activists saved her from a terrible fate, and Lulinda ended up in one of the monkey sanctuaries in the Congo. In these shots, one of her rescuers tickles her, and Lulinda laughs - just like a human!
The footage was filmed at the GRACE Monkey Sanctuary, where staff are working to save the critically endangered eastern lowland gorillas. Today, only about 800 individuals of this species remain in the wild. Lulingu was rescued from poachers in Virunga National Park in February 2017. Her father and mother were killed because they so violently resisted attempts to take them away.
The GARCE Sanctuary staff strives to provide all possible assistance to the cubs that end up here. They see their task, first of all, in the rehabilitation of young gorillas. And since the babies love to play, the staff plays with them.
The GRACE Nature Reserve was established specifically for the rehabilitation of gorillas who suffered at the hands of poachers. Staff are working with them so they can later be released back into the wild.
“Without our efforts, these animals will soon disappear from the face of the Earth. We must try to protect them,” say park staff.
