Vintage photos from Argentina’s Turismo Carretera series often feature massive "periscopes" towering above the hood. These were part of the intake system, raising the carburetor and air scoop high above the engine bay.
The nickname even appeared in a July 1980 road test by
Corsa
magazine. Behind the wheel of Oscar Aventín's race-prepped Dodge, the test drivers remarked on how the tall intake setup—with its carburetor mounted right on top—swayed over bumps in the road.
Built for long-distance road races, the car clocked a two-way average top speed of 235.75 km/h on the timed stretch, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.45 seconds.
