22 Things We Learned From the Movies (22 Photos)
Ah, the magic of cinema. It is a thrilling world, but if you watch too many movies, your view of reality can get seriously warped. After all, if directors and screenwriters are to be believed, people somehow survive horrific explosions unscathed, bad guys look ridiculously sinister, and literally everyone in the universe speaks fluent English.
So, here are a few absolute truths we’ve taken away from Hollywood over the years.
1. Every single phone number in the US starts with the digits 555.
2. If you hear a suspicious noise in your house at night, you must investigate it wearing nothing but your underwear.
3. Villains look so evil that police could easily arrest them on their looks alone.
4. If a side character spots a creepy, pitch-black basement, they will definitely go downstairs anyway just to ask a stupid "Is someone there?" before getting knocked out cold.
5. It doesn't matter how outnumbered you are in a fight as long as you know martial arts. Your enemies will patiently dance around in a circle, waiting for their turn to be knocked out one by one.
6. Creative professions are great: all writers are rich, all publishing houses are glamorous, and every artist lives in a spacious, sun-drenched top-floor loft.
7. A building's ventilation system is the ultimate hiding spot. Nobody will ever look for you in the air ducts, and you can easily crawl your way to any room in the building.
8. All bombs come equipped with a big, bright red digital countdown timer, so you always know exactly when they are going to blow up.
9. When the good guys trigger a massive explosion, they always walk away in slow motion without ever flinching or looking back.
10. Every police department uses a specialized personality test designed specifically to pair every cop with the absolute worst partner possible.
11. Before shooting the hero, the villain will always spend several minutes delivering a dramatic monologue.
12. More on bombs: they always feature color-coded wires so the hero can easily figure out which one to cut.
13. The more a man and woman hate each other at the beginning, the more guaranteed they are to fall head over heels in love by the end.
14. No matter what kind of hell you go through, your makeup will stay flawless.
15. To destroy sensitive computer data, all you have to do is shoot the monitor.
16. Immediate family members look absolutely nothing alike (and often appear to be completely different ethnicities).
17. If someone gets thrown across a room by a massive explosion, you must immediately ask them, "Are you OK?"
18. People rarely use the restroom. And anyone who actually steps inside to go is almost guaranteed to be found dead two minutes later.
19. Spaceships can be blown to pieces, but the artificial gravity system inside will keep working without a hitch.
20. Everyone in the universe speaks English—regardless of what country they are from, or even if they are aliens from another galaxy.
21. Anything radioactive glows bright green.
22. When you need to make a quick escape, every door is suddenly locked. Even the ones that were wide open a second ago!
