Amy Winehouse's father ordered to pay her friends almost £1 million (4 photos)

Mitch Winehouse initially accused women of selling his daughter's items without his knowledge.





Amy Winehouse's father lost a lawsuit against his daughter's friends. He must now pay them £950,000.

The legal proceedings between Mitch Winehouse and two of the singer's friends, Naomi Parry and Cathriona Gourlay, began in October 2023. The artist's father filed a lawsuit against the women, claiming they sold some of his daughter's items at two auctions in 2021 and 2023 without revealing the details. He claimed Parry and Gourlay pocketed more than $1.4 million from the sales.

Parry and Gourlay denied Winehouse's allegations. They claimed all the items sold were gifts or loaned to them by Amy Winehouse herself.

Judge Sarah Clarke called the singer's father's allegations baseless, finding that the women had not concealed from Mitch Winehouse the sale of his daughter's belongings. Winehouse himself only claimed the proceeds after the transactions were completed. According to the judge, Winehouse's allegations also caused significant damage to [Parry and Gourlay's] reputations, career prospects, financial stability, and health.

"The fact that he knowingly and deliberately acted in this way towards two young women who had loyally supported Amy... makes his unreasonable conduct particularly serious," the judge emphasized.

Among the 155 items up for auction from 2021 to 2023 were clothing, ballet flats, handbags, earrings, and cosmetics belonging to the late singer, as well as a dress she wore during her final tour in 2011.

Amy Winehouse died in 2011 from alcohol poisoning. She was 27.
