A lost puppy in the open sea survived a seagull attack (2 photos + 1 video)
A missing dog survived a terrifying ordeal in San Francisco Bay, battling rough waves and a flock of attacking seagulls. 
The puppy went missing from its owners on July 4, Independence Day, and was found nearly two weeks later, floundering in the waters of San Francisco Bay near East Palo Alto, California. This was reported by the New York Post.
The story began when a witness spotted a dog running into the water and swimming away from shore, after which they called 911. Menlo Park police and fire crews arrived on the scene.
Firefighters used binoculars to spot the dog and then used a drone to pinpoint its location.
The dog managed to swim about half a mile before rescuers arrived in an airboat and pulled the puppy from the water. Once on shore, they discovered an open wound on the dog's left cheek from a beak strike.
The dog was then turned over to animal control and later to the local Peninsula Humane Society, where staff were able to identify the missing pet's owners.
