Hong Kong International Airport officially opened its state-of-the-art Terminal 2, covering 300,000 square meters. Currently, the complex serves only departing passengers, becoming a new base for 15 regional carriers and Asian low-cost carriers, including AirAsia, HK Express, Cebu Pacific, and Bangkok Airways. The terminal's key feature is its comprehensive automation powered by artificial intelligence and biometrics: smart scanners at security now allow travelers to proceed through security without removing laptops and permitted liquids from their bags. While boarding and arriving flights are still handled through Terminal 1, the full launch of the arrivals area is planned for next year.
