Perhaps no other rabbit variety can boast such fluffy fur as the Angora rabbit. It is precisely because of their soft, long fur that they are popular among rabbit breeders worldwide.
These rabbits were first bred in Turkey, where they were named after the capital, Ankara, formerly known as Angora. In the 18th century, they arrived in France, after which they quickly spread throughout Europe.
Depending on the breed, Angora rabbits can weigh between two and six kilograms. They live quite a long time (5-7 years) in captivity, but only with careful care.
Rabbits' diet must be constantly monitored, they must be given the necessary vitamins, and their fur must be brushed regularly. The latter requirement is especially important.
If rabbits aren't brushed, they can die from ingesting hair they can't digest while grooming themselves.
Interestingly, Angora rabbits are very playful, active, and sociable, somewhat reminiscent of dogs and cats. They love to play with various objects, such as a rubber ball or a pine cone found in the yard.
And, they also enjoy the attention of their owners, as well as other pets in the house. For example, an Angora rabbit might happily nap next to a cat or small dog.
