Peacock invasion in Italian city
Peacocks have taken over the Italian resort town of Punta Marina. The birds roam the rooftops of buildings, obstruct traffic, and squawk loudly.
Journalists report that a colony of birds has caused chaos in the city. Local residents have counted approximately 400 birds. "They're everywhere!" said one resident.
The peacocks are blocking traffic and damaging roofs of houses and cars. People complain that the peacocks' cries keep them awake, and one Punta Marina resident even declared that she can't bear to stay in the city anymore because the birds start squawking at 4 a.m.
City officials have promised to conduct a census of the peacocks soon and find a solution, but animal rights activists are intervening, calling the birds "untouchable."
Last June, residents of the village of Gulwal, located in the British county of Cornwall, faced a similar problem. An entire colony of peacocks had taken up residence there, having escaped or been released from the grounds of a local mansion approximately twenty years ago. These exotic birds have become an integral part of the local landscape, but their presence provokes both admiration and irritation among residents, who see the birds damaging their cars and leaving waste on their lawns.
