A sudden and high-profile crime in Naples has caused a stir throughout Italy. An armed group reportedly stormed a bank branch, took employees and customers hostage, and then disappeared without a trace through underground passages.
According to preliminary reports, the criminals gained control of the situation immediately after entering the bank and held a total of 25 hostages. Police, who quickly arrived at the scene, surrounded the building, and the area was completely sealed off for security reasons.
After negotiations lasting approximately two hours, the hostages were released. Some people received emergency medical treatment due to severe stress, but no serious injuries were reported.
When security forces stormed the building, the criminals were gone. Further investigation revealed that they had escaped through a previously prepared secret passage—a tunnel connected to the sewer system.
According to eyewitnesses, although the hostage-takers were armed, they did not seriously harm the hostages, confining them to a separate room. This indicates that the plan was carefully planned in advance.
During the incident, emergency services smashed the bank's windows and evacuated the remaining residents. Thousands of people watched the events live.
Police are currently continuing a large-scale search through the sewer and underground networks. The amount of money or valuables stolen by the criminals has not yet been determined.
This event has once again raised serious questions about security and banking protection in Italy.
