But an animal named Chesney leaped over the barrier—the 16-month-old kangaroo had been frightened by stray dogs entering his enclosure. It took several difficult days to find the escaped kangaroo, but a local resident named Colton Johnson provided invaluable assistance by launching a drone with a thermal imaging camera and tracking the fugitive. Colton recalls with a smile that the kangaroo left a unique heat signature—it looked like a dinosaur smashing through the forest.
Luckily, Chesney was safely captured and returned home. Now they need to secure the enclosure from further dog access and install a mesh roof to prevent "excessive jumping."
