BMW is already working on a new 3 Series wagon. A teaser image of the next-generation five-door was shown during the live unveiling of the electric i3. Furthermore, BMW CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed that this body style will remain in the lineup, although he did not specify which powertrains the new Touring would receive.
During the teaser, Oliver Zipse noted that this body style has always been popular with BMW family buyers due to its practicality.
Considering that the unveiling took place during the premiere of the latest electric car, one theory is that the new i3 will eventually receive a five-door body style. Thus, the future Touring will lose its internal combustion engine.
According to another hypothesis, cited by Carscoops, the company will begin producing station wagons with different powertrains, both electric and gasoline. They will be similar in appearance but will be based on different platforms. The possibility of a "hot" i3 M Touring is also not ruled out, as the M division is already working on a battery-powered version of the "three."
The new station wagon is expected to be unveiled no earlier than the second half of 2027.
